Do Twice As Much. (and the less obvious reason why).

At the risk of stating the obvious, if you do twice as much work, you’ll be in a better place with your business.

The obvious thing about doing twice as much is that you will get twice as much done immediately. However, the more important thing to consider is that you’ll also get better twice as fast. This will in turn, double the rate you get even more results.

Let’s look at a straightforward example of this in the world of employment. For someone who is working a job, if they take on a second job doing the same or a similar role, they will double their income straight away. Of course, this is a nice immediate improvement.

However, crucially, they’ll also double the rate they gain experience and new skills. This means they’ll be able to double the rate they get increases in pay.

So, after 10 years in the workforce, this hard working individual will earn what they would have otherwise done after 20 years.

The compounding effect of this is striking and something I didn’t use to appreciate.

So yes, it’s worth doing more so that you achieve more in the short term (immediately increasing returns). But the real benefits come from accelerating your experience and skill development.

Finding ways to enable yourself to work more hours and to be more productive (doing more in the time you’re working), becomes the next challenge. But appreciating that you’ll both immediately double returns, and then accelerate the growth of the returns, should act as a meaningful carrot at the very least.
